Maintaining The Green Standard

The Special Forces community has long-suffered the effects of war. Constant deployments, training while not deployed, PTSD, TBI, suicide, marital struggles, divorce rates, raising children, transition to civilian life— all common issues amongst Green Beret families.

Who sees all of these problems? Who shoulders the burden of keeping life “normal” while the Green Beret is away? Who is the one playing Mommy and Daddy, who troubleshoots any deployment curse, who navigates healthcare and insurance challenges, who keeps balance for the children, who maintains a professional identity while managing this lifestyle?

Who is the glue holding the Green Beret and family together?

The Special Forces Shield Maiden.

As the Women Behind the Green Berets, we understand the Special Forces lifestyle.  Our non-profit was started by, for, and is run by Green Beret wives. SFSM sees our women as mission critical.

We seek to empower the Shield Maiden and Special Forces family in a variety of ways. As an all-volunteer team, 100% of our funds goes directly back to our mission and the Green Beret family.

We offer: a private forum in which the women can discuss issues, connect with other spouses, find friendship, resources, and a shoulder to lean on. Our team is active, engaged, and kind; no matter what the query, the Special Forces Shield Maidens will find a way to help. We source solutions to any problem and assist in execution. Are you the wife of a Green Beret and interested in joining this forum?

We offer: a fantastic scholarship program for the Shield Maiden who seeks further education and professional development. Named the Shannon Kent Special Forces Spouse Scholarship after Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon Kent (read more about this opportunity and Chief Kent here), SFSM supports the Shield Maiden’s desire to empower herself and succeed. Interested in donating to this fund?

We offer: care packages and morale boosters for our members and their families. We believe that no detail is too small, no gesture of kindness wasted. Want to send a little love to a spouse or family in need?

We offer: The Helping Hands Grant Program to support mental wellness and self-care for the wife of a deployed Green Beret. Do you want to help a Woman Behind the Green Beret get some relief during deployment?

Children’s programs! The Special Forces Shield Maidens understand the challenges and burdens a military child shoulders. We have developed new programs to bring some fun and excitement to the children of the Green Beret community. We want to raise happy, engaged patriots. Stay tuned for more!

Family unit programs! We encourage family cohesion and strength, and value the Shield Maiden’s role as a mother and wife. SFSM is thrilled to support the mental health and strong family unit of the Green Beret community.

The Special Forces Shield Maidens continue to grow and seek ways to assist our community, and we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support. As we are committed to helping our women, we ask for your help in doing so.
